RUNNING MAN

On the surface, pageants may not appear to have much in common with marathons. But further analysis shows that, like marathons, pageants can also be thought of as "long-distanced" competitions. After all, both will tests how far competitors can go the distance, keep up their momentum and not give up until they cross the finish line.

Furthermore, many marathons nowadays come in the form of biathlons, triathlons or even pentathlons, with multiple events one has to complete. Similarly, modern-day pageants no longer focus solely on looks and physique. Contestants need to be multi-faceted, proving they have brawn, brains, charisma, talent, and much more, in order to rise to the top and secure the winning place. Given the similarities, seasoned marathoner and Senior Manhunt finalist Eric Koa should therefore fit right in and feel right at home on the pageant platform.

Having participated in numerous local and overseas marathons, the 47-year-old sports retail associate proves that age is no barrier when it comes to the choice of adopting a fit and healthy lifestyle. Further exemplifying that mentality, the avid sportsman now bravely takes on the challenge of male pageantry.

Fulfilment is all in the state of mind. For marathoners like Eric, participation and completion is often rewarding enough on its own, with a win simply being an added bonus. Hence, holding true to his firm belief that the joy of life stems more from the experience of the journey more than the destination itself, Eric views the competition as a great opportunity to better himself. He may be the oldest contestant this year, but even his younger fellow competitors have to admit that his diligence and commitment towards the competition is truly commendable.

Whether be it working hard to bulk up his 1.62m 52kg body frame, or picking up invaluable tips on public speaking and confidence building, one thing is for sure. Eric's family, friends and fans will definitely be proud and happy to see him take to the stage on finals night, in celebration of his achievement of yet another memorable milestone in his journey through life.
